Moynalty Climate Action Strategy 2024

Moynalty Community Council in conjunction with the many voluntary groups serving the village and surrounding neighbourhood is developing a Climate Action Strategy to help lower our carbon footprint and enable us to become more environmentally friendly.

We have received grants to carry out the following actions in the village and with the Community Hall.

Solar Panels will be fitted to the roof of the Muintir na Tíre Hall as well as solar powered lighting. A bicycle rack will also be installed.

The village pump on Main Street near the bus stop will be refurbished.

Trees will be planted once suitable locations have been identified. A mixture of native trees and fruit trees will be planted.

Meath launched a Climate Action Plan 2024-2029.

Meath County Council Climate Action Plan 2024 – 2029

Meath County Council’s Climate Action Plan 2024 – 2029 was adopted on the 29th January 2024.  Meath County Council has prepared this Plan, to create a low carbon and climate resilient County, by delivering and promoting best practice in climate action, at the local level.  This Plan is aligned to the Government’s overall National Climate Objective, which seeks to pursue and achieve, by no later than the end of 2050, the transition to a climate resilient, biodiversity rich, environmentally sustainable and climate neutral economy. The full plan as a PDF file can be accessed at: https://www.meath.ie/council/council-services/environment/climate-action/climate-action-plan

We will also coordinate our actions in conjunction with the Government’s “Clean Air Strategy” launched in 2022.

The aims of the Government’s Clean Air strategic frameworks are:

  1. To set the appropriate targets and limits to ensure continuous improvements in air quality across the country, to deliver health benefits for all.
  2. To ensure the integration of clean air considerations into policy development across Government and the communities throughout the state.
  3. To increase the evidence base that will help us to continue to evolve our understanding of the sources of pollution and the impacts on health, in order to address them more effectively.
  4. To enhance regulation required to deliver improvements across all pollutants.
  5. To improve the effectiveness of our enforcement systems.
  6. To promote and increase awareness of the importance of clean air and the links between clean air and better health.
  7. To develop the additional targeted/specific policy measures as required to deal with national or local air quality issues.
